titleOfInvention | NADH oxidase as a target in diagnosis and therapy |
abstract | (57) [Summary]nPlasma membrane NADH oxidase is disclosed to be a target for various uses in diagnosis and therapy. In particular, NADH oxidase associated with tumor cells is immunologically and biologically distinct from NADH oxidase associated with normal cells. Thus, the presence of tumor cells in a patient can be monitored by monitoring serum or biopsy samples for the presence of a disease associated with NADH oxidase. By using NADH oxidase as the target of the inhibitor, tumor cells, virus infected cells and multidrug resistant cells are particularly affected, but normal cells are not. Provided are specific inhibitors having increased activity on disease associated NADH oxidase as compared to normal NADH oxidase. The use of NADH oxidase in association with tumor cells provides an opportunity for assays to screen for agents that are specific for tumor cells and that are provided as anti-cancer or growth inhibitors. |
