(57) Abstract: formula, -CO-Y-R 3 (wherein, Y is O or S, R 3 is H, hydrocarbyl, or substituted hydrocarbyl in which) functionalized with a functional group The depleted hydrocarbon is derivatized with a heavy polyamine or a heavy polyamine and a secondary amine to give an amide-containing product. The hydrocarbon is selected from a hydrocarbon compound and a hydrocarbon polymer. Functionalized hydrocarbons are made by reacting hydrocarbons with carbon monoxide and a nucleophilic capture agent. Heavy polyamines are mixtures of polymers that contain small amounts of light polyamine oligomers, such as tetraethylene pentaamine and pentaethylene hexaamine, and primarily contain oligomers with more than 6 nitrogens and more branched chains. Amide-containing products are useful as additives in fuels and lubricating oils. |
