titleOfInvention | High-efficiency lighting device and image projection device including the lighting device |
abstract | (57) [Summary] An illuminating device that generates a beam of linearly polarized light having a non-rotationally symmetric beam cross section at the position of an object to be illuminated will be described. The illuminator includes a light source (50), a reflector (80), an optical integrator (54, 82) for forming a beam cross section and forming a uniform light distribution over the beam cross section, and light generated from the light source. And a polarizing optical system (20, 31) for converting the light into linearly polarized light. Since the polarization optical system is arranged in the radiation light path in front of the optical integrator, the illumination device can be made compact with a small number of components. This lighting device can be used in an image projection device with many advantages. |
