titleOfInvention | Screening for cytokine modulators |
abstract | (57) [Summary]nThe present invention provides methods for screening for agents that are useful in treating diseases and pathological conditions affected by cytokines. These agents interact directly or indirectly with intracellular receptors, which in turn regulate the binding of rel-like proteins, rel-like protein complexes or other transcribed proteins to the rel site on the promoter of cytokine genes. The intracellular receptor may be an estrogen receptor, a retinoid acid receptor, a retinoid X receptor, a glucocorticoid receptor, a progesterone receptor, an androgen receptor, a thyroid hormone receptor or a vitamin D receptor. The selected drugs can be used to treat osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis, inflammation, psoriasis, Kaposi's sarcoma, septic shock and multiple myeloma. |
