titleOfInvention Wide viewing angle polarizer
abstract (57) [Summary] To provide a polarizing layer capable of enlarging a good visibility region in a liquid crystal display device. A birefringent layer (3) is provided on one side of a polarizing layer (1). Are arranged such that the transmission axis and the slow axis have a parallel relationship or an orthogonal relationship. [Effect] In the front direction perpendicular to the polarizing layer surface, a decrease in brightness and contrast can be prevented without being affected by the phase difference of the birefringent layer, and a change in the state of linearly polarized light due to the birefringence of the liquid crystal cell via the birefringent layer. By compensating for this, it is possible to expand the area of good visibility excellent in contrast and brightness without color change such as coloring or gradation inversion, and a liquid crystal display device with a wide viewing angle can be obtained.
