abstract (57) [Problem] To provide a planar carbon commutator capable of effectively utilizing the characteristics of carbon previously fired at a high temperature and a method of manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: In a planar carbon commutator in which a plurality of metallic segments 5 are fixed to a commutator main body 3 made of resin, and carbon 7 is integrally fixed to each of the segments 5, the carbon is provided on the carbon 7. The engagement projection is engaged with an engagement hole provided in the segment 5 to be fixedly integrated. The manufacturing method of the planar carbon commutator includes a step of integrating the metal base material and the carbon that become the segments, and after integrating the metal base material and the carbon, when molding with a molding resin, the exposed surface of the carbon is formed. The manufacturing method includes a step of coating with the mold resin, a step of cutting the metal base material into the respective segments and simultaneously cutting the carbon, and a step of removing the mold resin from the surface of the carbon.
