titleOfInvention Exhaust gas purification device for internal combustion engine
abstract (57) [Problem] To maintain a catalyst temperature as high as possible in a temperature range in which an exhaust gas purifying operation is performed. In an exhaust gas purifying apparatus for an internal combustion engine, an exhaust gas purifying catalyst (17) is disposed in an engine exhaust passage (16), and the catalyst performs an exhaust gas purifying operation in a predetermined temperature range. A cooling device 22 is provided at 20 and a heating device 26 is provided at a downstream end 24 of the catalyst. The cooling device and the heating device are operated during operation of the engine so that the temperature of at least a part of the catalyst is within a temperature range in which an exhaust gas purifying operation is performed.
