abstract |
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for improving the adhesion of a room temperature curing (RTV) silicone composition to a substrate. SOLUTION: A monoketoester such as ethyl acetoacetate is added to an RTV silicone composition comprising an alkoxy-terminated polydiorganosiloxane, a crosslinking agent having a methoxy or ethoxy group bonded to silicon, a filler and a titanium catalyst. Add. The composition is then applied to a substrate to bring the substrate and the uncured composition into intimate contact. Thereafter, the composition is exposed to atmospheric moisture for a time sufficient to obtain a cured material. When tested, the bond between the cured material and the substrate surprisingly exhibits cohesive failure. |
