PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing a polyalkylene oxide which does not contain a metal component and has no odor when a polyalkylene oxide is produced by polymerizing an alkylene oxide compound. SOLUTION: The production of a polyalkylene oxide is characterized by polymerizing an alkylene oxide compound in the presence of an active hydrogen compound and a phosphazene compound or in the presence of a phosphazenium salt of an active hydrogen compound derived from the active hydrogen compound and the phosphazene compound.
