(57) [Problem] To provide a volume hologram liquid crystal element having high reflectance. A volume hologram optical element comprising a liquid crystal / polymer composite film element having a structure in which a polymer layer made of a polymer compound and a polymer liquid crystal layer in which liquid crystal is dispersed in the polymer compound are alternately laminated.
