abstract |
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To purify trifluoromethane (crude HFC-23) containing a compound having chlorine and bromine as impurities and produce a low-temperature refrigerant or tetrafluoromethane containing almost no such impurities. To provide an industrially easy and economical purification method for obtaining high-purity trifluoromethane that can be used as a raw material for products. SOLUTION: The above-mentioned crude trifluoromethane containing impurities is reacted with hydrogen fluoride at an elevated temperature in the presence of a fluorination catalyst in a gas phase to convert chlorine and bromine into hydrogen chloride and hydrogen bromide. And then remove the acid containing hydrogen chloride and hydrogen bromide, and dehydrate by contacting with a dehydrating agent. |
