C43 alkyl group, alkenyl group or acyl group (B): the hydroxyl group is substituted by an optionally substituted C1 to C5 sulfoalkyl group or a salt thereof, and the average degree of substitution per constituent monosaccharide residue However, group (A) is 0.0001 or more and less than 0.001, group (B) is 0.0 A novel polysaccharide derivative having 1 to 2.0 and a method for producing the same. [Effect] Gives highly transparent aqueous solution, shows excellent thickening effect by adding a small amount, has little viscosity change due to coexistence of salt and temperature, has excellent dispersion stabilizing effect, thickens building materials, etc. It is useful as an agent, a dispersant and the like.
