abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a hydrophobic aerogel capable of efficiently producing a hydrophobic aerogel in which light-transmitting properties and heat-insulating properties due to the adsorption of moisture are prevented from being deteriorated with time. . SOLUTION: A sol is prepared by lowering the pH value of a water glass solution, and the sol is gelled to prepare a gel-like compound. Then, the water in the gel-like compound is replaced with an organic solvent to obtain a silanol. A hydrophobizing agent having a functional group that reacts with a group and a hydrophobic group is reacted with the gel compound in a liquid phase, and the gel compound is supercritically dried.
