Compositions and methods for treating gastrointestinal tract in inflammatory conditions |
abstract |
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an enteric nutritional supplement composition effective for treating or preventing inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, for example, Crohn's disease. SOLUTION: The present invention relates to the above-mentioned composition, wherein i) TGF- β2 enriched casein; ii) a lipid source that provides about 35% to about 50% energy; and iii) a carbohydrate source. Preferred embodiments of the composition of the present invention are as follows. That is, casein is contained in an amount of 1. Composition 100 containing 2-2.0 μg of TGF-β2 Contains 10-40 μg of TGF-β2 per g. The lipid source consists of a mixture of medium chain triglycerides and long chain triglycerides up to 20% by weight and contains polyunsaturated essential fatty acids up to 10% of the lipid energy. The energy content of the composition is in the range of 800-1200 kcal / l, with casein providing 10-14.5% of the energy of the composition. |
