abstract |
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To react 2,3,5-trimethylhydroquinone with phytol or isophytol in the presence of a zinc halide condensation catalyst and a proton donor, and then to or without esterification with acetic anhydride. By α -To provide a method for producing tocopherol or α-tocopheryl acetate. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] The reaction is carried out in a non-polar solvent which is only slightly miscible with water and B. The required zinc halide is introduced into the reaction in the form of a mixture with 1 to 4 moles of water per mole of the same. The recycling of zinc halides is possible, in which case the yield and purity of α-tocopherol are not reduced. |
