titleOfInvention | Orthoesters as BPA scavengers in polycarbonate products |
abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polycarbonate and polyester carbonate resin having improved stability and containing no unreacted dihydric phenol residue. SOLUTION: A polycarbonate resin is heated in the presence of an orthoester or an orthocarbonate. Specific examples of orthoesters and orthocarbonates include trimethyl orthobenzoate or 2-methoxy-2-phenyl- There is 1,3-dioxolan. The heat treatment is preferably performed in the presence of a catalyst at a temperature in the range from about 280C to about 380C. Heating is preferably performed by melt blending the orthoester or orthocarbonate with the polycarbonate. |
