abstract (57) [Problem] To provide a novel method for producing a naphthalene derivative. SOLUTION: 6-hydroxy-2-naphthaldehyde is reacted with 2,4-thiazolidinedione to form 5- (6 -Hydroxy-2-naphthyl) methylene-2,4-thiazolidinedione followed by 5- (6-hydroxy-2) -Naphthyl) methyl-2,4-thiazolidinedione. Further, this is reacted with a benzyl derivative to produce 5- (6-substituted benzyloxy-2-naphthyl) methyl-2,4-thiazolidinedione represented by the following formula. Embedded image Y: protecting group such as halogen atom R 1 to R 5 : hydrogen atom, halogen atom, alkyl group etc. A: C 1 to C 3 alkylene group etc. Effect The method of the present invention has a blood glucose and blood lipid lowering action. In addition, it is useful as an industrial method for producing a naphthylmethylthiazolidinedione derivative useful as a preventive / therapeutic agent for diabetes and hyperlipidemia.
