abstract | (57) [Problem] To provide a magnetic recording medium capable of realizing a shorter recording wavelength and a higher recording density. A biaxially oriented polyester film having a coating layer provided in a film forming process is provided with a magnetic layer in which a magnetic material is dispersed in a resin binder, on the surface of the coating layer. The center line average roughness is less than 10 nm, the center line average roughness of the film surface opposite to the coating layer is 10 to 30 nm, and the thickness t (μm) of the coating layer and the thickness tM (μm) of the magnetic layer.
