(57) [Summary] [PROBLEMS] To reduce the amount of zinc consumed in a method in which nitrate nitrogen is reduced with zinc to nitrite nitrogen or ammonia nitrogen, and further decomposed into nitrogen gas in the presence of a catalyst. Provided is a method for treating nitrate-nitrogen-containing water, which can be minimized and can be surely treated by easy process control. A first step of contacting wastewater containing nitrate nitrogen with zinc in a pH acidic region to reduce nitrate nitrogen to nitrite nitrogen or ammonia nitrogen, a step of producing nitrite nitrogen and ammonia A method for treating nitrogen in a second step in which nitrogen is decomposed and converted into nitrogen gas in the presence of a catalyst, wherein the contact reaction with zinc is performed by adjusting an oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) to a predetermined value.
