abstract An integrated digital communication system utilizing multi-level vestigial sideband transmission is provided. A communication system receives a digital signal modulated by multiple levels of pulse amplitude from a limited bandwidth channel. The system includes the processing steps of demodulating, sampling and filtering the incoming signal prior to digital data recovery. The other stages are It recovers timing, locks the frequency and phase of the transmitted signal, and provides automatic gain control. Adaptive equalizers, error correction circuits and output interfaces recover the digital data and transfer it to other devices.
