(57) Abstract: Using bromic acid or a salt thereof, a secondary alcohol is oxidized with high conversion and selectivity to produce a corresponding ketone. SOLUTION: Under acidic conditions with at least one inorganic acid or organic acid selected from hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, nitric acid and phosphoric acid, bromic acid or a salt thereof with respect to a hydroxyl group of a secondary alcohol. The corresponding ketone is prepared by oxidizing the secondary alcohol with 0.4 to 1 molar equivalent. Secondary alcohols include aliphatic alcohols and alicyclic alcohols, and may be monohydric or polyhydric alcohols. In this reaction, bromine is produced together with the ketone. |
