abstract (57) [Abstract] [PROBLEMS] Higher capacity and lighter weight are achieved by thinning the container and the sealing plate, and avoidance of rupture when the battery internal pressure rises excessively due to abnormal charging or misuse. It is an object of the present invention to provide a cylindrical battery. SOLUTION: An electrode group housed in a bottomed cylindrical container 1 having an opening 2 and a step 4, an electrolytic solution housed in the container 1, and a step 4 in the container 1. And an insulating gasket 9 placed in a compressed state in a space surrounded by the step portion 4 and the bent portion 3 by bending the upper end of the opening portion 2 inward, and inside the gasket 9. A circular sealing plate 12 having gas vents arranged therein, In the cylindrical battery in which only the sealing plate 12 is caulked and fixed under compression of the gasket 9, the sealing plate has a Vickers hardness of 170 to 250 Hv.
