abstract (57) Abstract: [Problem] To provide an industrial production method capable of producing α-sulfoacyloxybenzenesulfonic acid or a salt thereof in a higher yield, a higher selectivity and a lower cost than ever before. SOLUTION: Acyloxybenzene is added in the presence of a carboxylic acid ester such as a carboxylic acid lower alkyl ester, Sulfonating with a sulfonating agent, and neutralization with an alkaline agent as needed, the α-sulfoacyloxybenzenesulfonic acid represented by the general formula (3) or a salt thereof is obtained.
