(57) Abstract: [PROBLEMS] To provide a method for producing a branched chain unsaturated aldehyde with good selectivity from an acedaldehyde and a saturated aldehyde, which is a small byproduct of a linear unsaturated aldehyde such as crotonaldehyde. A cross aldol condensation reaction between acetaldehyde and a saturated aldehyde represented by the formula R 1 —CH 2 —CHO (III) is performed in the presence of a zeolite-supported base composition in which a zeolite compound is supported by an alkali metal. Then, by the dehydration reaction, the formula CH 3 —CH═CR 1 CHO (VI) and the formula R 1 —CH 2 —CH═CR 1 CHO (VII) (R 1 in each formula has 1 to 1 carbon atoms). 6 represents a straight chain alkyl group of 6) and synthesizes a branched unsaturated aldehyde. |
