titleOfInvention | Gas generating propellant |
abstract | (57) Summary A gas generating propellant mix consisting essentially of guanidine nitrate; an oxidant selected from the group consisting of potassium perchlorate and ammonium perchlorate; a glidant; and a binder. 24) is provided. Upon ignition, the propellant mix typically produces nitrogen, carbon dioxide and water vapor at elevated temperatures above about 800 ° C. This propellant mix is particularly useful in enhanced gas generators that enhance oxygen release from a second source such as potassium chlorate. The propellant mix does not contain highly toxic compounds and has particular application in automotive airbags. |
