(57) [Summary] A method for purifying a protein by displacement chromatography in an ion exchange medium using a displacer (displacing agent) having a certain molecular weight is disclosed. Some low molecular weight, charged compounds are exemplified, including amino acids, peptides, antibiotics and dendrimeric polymers. The novel compounds useful as displacers are of formula (I): Dendrimers (wherein R 1 is a lower alkyl group, n is 2 to 6 and X is a common counter anion) and similar dendritic polymers based thereon. |
