titleOfInvention | Barium-containing alumina |
abstract | (57) Summary The present invention is a barium-containing alumina having the X-ray pattern of the drawing. This alumina can be synthesized by simultaneously adding a polyether or polyalcohol and an aqueous solution of water-soluble barium carboxylate to an aqueous boehmite sol or suspension to form a gel, which gel has a weight of about 2 wt. % Or about 26% by weight, preferably about 10% to about 20% by weight of polyether or polyalcohol content. The gel is then dried and calcined to convert it to substantially pure barium-containing delta alumina. Optionally, the alumina can be hydrothermally treated to further induce crystallization. The final product contains about 2% to about 18% by weight Ba, preferably about 8% to about 12% by weight. |
