abstract (57) [Summary]nA photoanode comprising at least one layer of polycrystalline titanium dioxide on a conductive substrate, a counter electrode, and an electrolyte disposed between the electrodes, at least one of which is transparent or semi-transparent. A battery that is transparent. The electrolyte includes a redox system that is liquid at room temperature. The first species of the pair making up the redox system preferably consists of an electrochemically active salt having a melting point below room temperature, the electrochemically active salt having at least one species having a melting point below room temperature. It may be dissolved in an inert salt.
