Detection and treatment of breast and gynecological cancers |
abstract |
(57) Summary The present invention provides methods for detecting the presence of HIV-I cross-reactive breast cancer and gynecologic cancer related antigens in a biological sample, and methods for treating these cancers. In a preferred embodiment, these methods utilize monoclonal antibodies raised against a synthetic peptide corresponding to the variable domain (amino acid region 308-322) of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV-I) envelope protein gp120. Regions of homology between HIV-I sequences and breast and gynecologic cancer sequences are identified as methods for diagnosis and therapy based on conserved genetic sequences. |
