Flywheel device for mobile energy storage |
abstract |
(57) [Summary] The flywheel support system isolates the flywheel and its motor-generator from the operating environment of an electric vehicle. Appropriate liquid placed outside the flywheel assembly and between the vacuum housings provides buoyancy and damping to the vacuum housings, cooling of the motor-generator and in the event of an accident or malfunction, rotor energy and angular momentum transfer. Useful as one. During normal operation, a shearable mechanical gimbal device holds the vacuum housing centered within the outer housing and is responsive to the rotational movement generated by the motor-generator and electrically connected to the vacuum housing. Supply the lead passage. In the event of a bearing outage or rotor malfunction, the mechanical gimbal is sheared and gradually lowers the vacuum housing against the fluid. A device consisting of angular contact oil lubricated ball bearings supports the rotating assembly containing the rotor of the motor-generator. A compression film damper associated with the lowermost bearing minimizes mechanical vibration. A molecular traction pump maintains a high vacuum for the rotating structure. The placement of its contents below the center of gravity and buoyancy of the vacuum housing results in vertical orientation of the vacuum housing in the absence of acceleration, allowing the flywheel rotor weight to be unloaded by magnets. |
