titleOfInvention Implantable capacitive absolute pressure and temperature monitoring system
abstract (57) Summary A capacitive pressure and temperature sensing system that provides signals representative of the magnitude of absolute body fluid pressure at a selected site and ambient operating conditions including body temperature at the site. An implantable lead with a sensor module formed at the distal end powers the sensor circuit in this sensor module to demodulate absolute pressure and temperature data from the signal produced by the sensor circuit. Connected to a monitor that remembers. The sensor module is formed by a pick-off capacitor that changes capacitance with changes in pressure and a reference capacitor that is relatively insensitive to changes in pressure. The sensor circuit provides a charging current that varies with temperature fluctuations at the implant site, alternately charging and discharging the two capacitors, with discriminable parameters at the end of each charging cycle, and timing pulses sent to the demodulator. Cause The demodulator detects and synchronizes with the timing pulses to obtain pressure and temperature analog voltage values representing the intervals between the timing pulses that are digitized and stored in the monitor. The monitor may also be coupled with other sensors that measure and store relevant patient body parameters such as blood gases, EGM and patient activity.
