titleOfInvention | Fiber glass sizing compositions, sized glass fibers and methods for their use |
abstract | (57) [Summary]nProvided is an aqueous glass fiber sizing composition that enhances whiteness and imparts high wet-out and wet-through to composites made using glass fibers coated with the sizing composition of the present invention. When used to reinforce thermoset polymeric materials, glass fibers sized with the composition provide composites with a more uniform surface with reduced fiber protrusion, fiber lead-through, and wave. It causes damage due to unevenness, warpage or aggregation. The composition comprises a urethane modified epoxy thermosetting copolymer; a self-reactive crosslinkable copolymer selected from vinyl acetate polymers, polyesters, acrylic polymers and mixtures thereof; a thermoplastic polymer; at least one organofunctional silane coupling agent. A filling lubricant; and a sufficient amount of water to apply the sizing composition to at least one glass fiber. |
