A metal phthalocyanine compound represented by the general formula (Formula 1) (M is V or Ti). Embedded image A method for producing a metal phthalocyanine compound, which comprises subjecting 2,3-naphthalenedicarbonitrile and phthalonitrile to thermal condensation in the presence of a titanium compound or a vanadium compound, and separating the target product from the resulting product by sublimation.
