abstract (57) Abstract: A novel liquid crystal compound having a ferrielectric phase is provided. A liquid crystal compound represented by the following general formula (1) and having a ferrielectric phase in its phase sequence. Embedded image (Wherein R is a linear alkyl group, X and Y are hydrogen atoms or one is a fluorine atom and the other is a H atom, and C * is an asymmetric carbon, p is 1 or 0, and when p is 1, m is 5, n is 1, and when p is 0, n is 5. [Effect] A compound having a ferri-dielectric phase, which is preferably used for an active matrix type liquid crystal display device driven for each pixel, has been found.
