abstract (57) Abstract: A hydrogenation catalyst having a higher load capacity and a higher selectivity than a known catalyst and having a long working life that can be used in a reactor having a simple structure is provided. To provide a process for the production of aromatic amines by gas phase hydrogenation without the need to add heat to remove heat from the catalyst bed. SOLUTION: In a gas phase, on a catalyst in which palladium is supported on a graphite carrier or a graphite-containing coke carrier, about 30 to 6000 equivalents of hydrogen per 1 equivalent of nitro group are supplied to the catalyst to convert the nitro aromatic compound into hydrogen.
