abstract (57) Abstract: The information recording / reproducing apparatus records table-of-contents information and digital information, and the digital information recorded in a predetermined track of a recording medium is partially erased by a simple procedure operation. SOLUTION: A start point a position and an end point b position to be erased are designated by a partial recording range designating operation means (repeat key) 17a, and a certain operation means 17c is operated to start from a start point a in a track to be erased. The contents up to the end point b are erased, and the contents of the table of contents information area (UTOC area) of the recording medium are automatically updated.
