[Structure] A chargeable / dischargeable positive electrode, a non-aqueous electrolyte, and a chargeable / dischargeable negative electrode are provided, and the negative electrode is 7 to 35 wt% sulfur, 6.5-25 wt% oxygen and 10.5-18.3w Contain at least one of t% nitrogen (However, if two or more are contained, the total amount is 35 wt%) Non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery made of carbon material. Cyclic compounds, chain compounds, derivatives or polymers thereof containing a sulfur atom, an oxygen atom or a nitrogen atom, and one selected from the group consisting of halogens and halides are heated in a reaction vessel to give sulfur and oxygen. Alternatively, a method for manufacturing a negative electrode including a step of obtaining a carbon material containing nitrogen.
