abstract (57) Abstract: [PROBLEMS] To provide a method for producing a modified polyvinyl alcohol having a high effective utilization rate (that is, a reaction rate) of a vinyl compound used for modification. SOLUTION: Acrylamide is added to polyvinyl alcohol by Michael addition in a solvent suspension system to produce a modified polyvinyl alcohol. The modified polyvinyl alcohol thus obtained is filtered, purified with a small amount of an organic solvent, and then dried.
