(57) Abstract: A method for alkaline oxidation of a sugar having one or more primary alcohol functional groups in an aqueous medium, in which the oxidation proceeds at a particularly high sugar concentration, and a novel product obtained by the method. It is to provide use as a builder in a cleaning composition. A second feature is that the concentration of sugar in the aqueous medium is higher than 50 g / l, preferably higher than 100 g / l and more preferably higher than 200 g / l.
