(57) [Abstract] [Problem] Obtained without performing a hydrogen gas reduction step, A Ru / Sn-containing solid catalyst for hydrogenation having excellent activity, and a process for producing an arylalkyl alcohol using the catalyst. SOLUTION: A non-chlorinated Ru compound and a non-chlorinated Sn compound are supported on a carrier and calcined in an inert gas or neutralized with an alkali to obtain a solid catalyst. Using this catalyst, an arylalkyl carboxylic acid of the following general formula (I) or its ester can be hydrogenated to obtain an arylalkyl alcohol. Embedded image |
