In the method for producing an alkylene oxalate cyclic ester by depolymerizing an alkylene oxalate oligomer, (1) an alkylene oxalate oligomer and 2 A mixture containing at least one high-boiling polar organic solvent having a boiling point in the range of 25 to 450 ° C. is heated under normal pressure or reduced pressure to a temperature at which depolymerization of the oligomer occurs (2) the oligomer.
