abstract | (57) An object of the present invention is to provide an image forming apparatus capable of accurately detecting the film thickness of a photosensitive layer with a simple structure and adjusting image forming conditions in accordance with the detected film thickness. A photoconductor drum 71 mounted in a copying machine 100 is one in which a charge generation layer and a charge transport layer containing an orange dye are sequentially laminated on an alumite-treated conductive substrate. A sensor 50 having a light emitting element and a light receiving element for detecting the film thickness of the photosensitive layer is provided near the photosensitive drum 71. O of main switch SW When the copying machine is powered on by N, the sensor 50 irradiates the photoconductor drum 71 with light corresponding to the maximum absorption wavelength of the orange dye from the light emitting element 51, and the reflected light is received by the light receiving element. Then, the film thickness of the charge transport layer is detected from the amount of light received by the light receiving element. When the film thickness is 8 μm or more, the grid potential of the scorotron charger 72 is adjusted according to the film thickness. When the film thickness is less than 8 μm, the display panel displays a message to replace the photosensitive drum and a message to prohibit copying. In addition, the key input on the operation panel cannot be accepted and copying is prohibited. |
