titleOfInvention Liquid crystal element and liquid crystal device including the same
abstract (57) Abstract: A DC voltage component applied to a liquid crystal layer during driving in a liquid crystal element is reduced. SOLUTION: Electrodes 53, 54 and orientation control layer 5 are respectively provided. A liquid crystal device having a liquid crystal layer 51 between a pair of substrates that are opposed to each other at a certain distance with a spacer member 58 having a predetermined size and having a size of 5, 56. And the resistance value in the substrate normal direction of the liquid crystal layer 51 including the spacer member 58 at the predetermined temperature is equal to or higher than the electric conductivity of the liquid crystal material forming the liquid crystal layer, and the plane area and the thickness are the same as those of the liquid crystal layer 51. It is characterized in that it is substantially lower than the resistance value in the direction normal to the substrate when it is composed of only a liquid crystal material.
