abstract (57) [Summary] [Purpose] In a converter lined with magnesia-based refractory material, the melting rate of the refractory material of the furnace body is suppressed, and the life of the furnace refractory material is dramatically improved. [Composition] As a method for suppressing melting loss of converter refractory, the magnesia content (wt%) in the molten slag in the converter exceeds the magnesia saturated solubility (wt%) of the molten slag, and the maximum is 10 wt%. A refining method in which a magnesia raw material is added in an excess amount, and 10% by weight or more of the magnesia raw material is added by a magnesia clinker. The addition of the magnesia clinker is completed before the blowing of the converter or within 5 minutes after the beginning of the blowing, and the magnesia clinker to be added has a crystal grain size of 200 μm or less and contains impurities (CaO, The sum of SiO 2, Al 2 O 3, etc.) is 2 to 22%, particle size 2~80mm is desirable.
