abstract (57) [Summary] [Object] To provide a coating method for coating a low-viscosity coating liquid on a cylindrical substrate without bead breakage and without fluctuation in film thickness. [Structure] A coating liquid outlet 12 formed in an endless shape facing a peripheral surface of a cylindrical substrate 1 moving in the longitudinal direction with a predetermined gap therebetween, and a slit-shaped coating communicating with the coating liquid outlet 12. Liquid distribution slit 13, annular coating liquid reservoir chamber 14 communicating with the opening on the inlet side of coating liquid distribution slit 13, and at least one coating liquid supply for externally supplying the coating liquid to coating liquid reservoir chamber 14. In a coating device for a cylindrical substrate having a mouth 15, the size of the gap of the coating liquid distribution slit 13 is gradually reduced from the position on the coating liquid supply port 15 side to the position farthest from the coating liquid supply port 15. An apparatus for coating a cylindrical substrate formed as described above.
