When a polyethylene naphthalate is produced by a transesterification method from a dicarboxylic acid dialkyl ester mainly containing dimethyl 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylate and a glycol mainly containing ethylene glycol, a glycol-soluble transesterification catalyst ( Example, Ca, Mg, M n organic carboxylic acid salt, etc.) and a DEG inhibitor (potassium acetate) in the presence of a transesterification reaction, and then a phosphorus compound (eg, phosphate ester) and a polycondensation catalyst (antimony oxide etc.) Add and allow polycondensation reaction.
