abstract (57) Abstract: A method for producing methionine and a salt thereof is provided. It is produced from 3-methylmercaptopropionaldehyde, hydrogen cyanide, ammonia and carbon dioxide through steps of synthesis, hydrolysis and release. [Effect] Almost quantitatively obtained methionine has low coloration and good storage stability. This method allows continuous production on a large scale.
