abstract (57) Abstract: A compound suitable for a dye-based polarizing film is provided, and a polarizing film excellent in polarizing performance and durability is produced by using the compound. The formula (I) in the form of the free acid (In the formula, Q 1 is an unsubstituted or substituted phenyl or naphthyl group, Q 2 is phenyl having at least one substituent selected from hydroxy and unsubstituted or substituted amino, R 1 , R 2 , R 3 and R 4 each independently represent hydrogen, hydroxy, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy or unsubstituted or substituted amino), or a tetrakisazo compound represented by the above formula, or between R 4 and OH in the above formula. The compound which formed the copper complex which is -O-Cu-O-, and the polarizing film containing at least 1 sort (s) of these compounds.
