SOLUTION: A mixture containing polydiorganosiloxane and an alkali metal has a formula R 1 a (OH) b (OSi R 2 3 ) 3-ab P = O (wherein each R 1 and R 2 of this formula is an independently selected hydrocarbyl group having less than 12 carbon atoms, a = 1 or 2, b = 0 or 1, and a + b = 1 or 2) is contacted with a stabilizing amount of silylphosphonate.
