(57) [Abstract] [PROBLEMS] Alkyl-substituted hydroxyaromatic carboxylic acid aryl ester useful as an additive for engine oil, particularly diesel engine and methanol engine lubricating oil, or fuel oil, which meets strict future exhaust gas regulations. To provide a method for producing lactic acid with high yield and economically.
